The Covington Recreation Department will present its second annual youth swim competition at the Covington City Pool in the Rev. Peter Atkins Park. Time qualifiers will be July 16-21; elimination heats, July 23-26; and the championship competition will be July 27.
Grouping and ranking will be based on age and ability. Youth of all ages are encouraged to participate. Parents and friends are encouraged to attend as well. For information, call the pool office at 985.635.0027.
Youth conditioning camps offered in Covington
The Covington Recreation Department also is offering a series of free, week-long Youth Conditioning Camps. The camps meet Monday through Thursday, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., through July 26, at 28th and Tyler Multi-purpose field. Registration is conducted at the camp site, before the camp begins; or via email to recreation@covla.com. After obtaining registration form, the completed form must be hand-delivered to the Covington Recreation Office, 4001 de Porres Road, Covington. Participants attending a week of camp will receive a free T-shirt. Participants must be registered by a guardian (no exceptions).
Slidell Youth Soccer Club registration

Lakeshore Rugby Football Club
Pelican Park was the venue as the newly formed Lakeshore Rugby Football Club hosted the June Doom Sevens Tournament June 22. The event, officially sanctioned by USA Rugby, drew seven other Louisiana teams.
The final match saw the Wolfpack of Loyola University defeat a side from Baton Rouge to capture first place. The Lakeshore side reached the finals in the consolation bracket, and faced the Motleys. After falling behind in the first seven minutes, Lakeshore rallied behind tries scored by Jason Rich and Glen Tregle to take the lead. Second-half scores by Tommy Dericks and Taylor Morris helped seal a 29-10 victory. Jason Rich led all Lakeshore scorers with four on the day.
Lakeshore RFC is actively recruiting both new and experienced players. Practices are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Silver Complex in Pelican Park.
Covington football, cheerleader fun
Covington Recreation Department is conducting registration for youth football and cheerleading programs. Both are open to youths, ages 5-12 (as of May 1, 2013.)
Registration for both programs began June 29 and will continue through July 27 at the Covington Recreation Ballpark office, 4001 de Porres Road, Covington, at the Recreation Complex.
Register Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The fees are $55 per person, for residents living within the city limits (currently paying city utilities); and $100 per person, living outside the city limits. youths on State Financial Assistance and living within the city limits may register for $30.
Evaluation information will be distributed upon registration.

The Slidell Past Masters Club will host its 13th annual Golf Tournament on Sept. 28 at Royal Golf Club, Slidell. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Slidell Learning Center for dyslexic children.
The event will be a four-man scramble with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Entry fees are $280 per four-man team or $70 per golfer.
The fee includes the golf game, cart, beverages, and lunch. Food will be furnished by Zea Rotisserie and Grill, Slidell. There also will a special prize of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup, donated by Leson Chevrolet, Harvey, Louisiana, for a hole-in-one on a designated par-3 hole. There will be prize money for the top two teams plus other skill contest and lots of door prizes.
Hole sponsorships are available for a $50 fee.

Persons born after Jan. 1, 1984, may not operate a motorboat or PWC-powered by a motor in excess of 10 HP unless they have successfully completed a boating safety course. Topics of discussion will include federal and state boating laws, personal safety equipment, safe boat handling, navigation, water skiing, river boating, and personal watercraft (PWC).
This very popular Coast Guard approved course exceeds all State and Federal educational requirements. There is a $35 charge for instruction and course material.? About Boating SafelyThe U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 081-04-084, of Slidell, will teach an "About Boating Safely" class on the third Saturday of each month, March-August. Classes will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 433 Erlanger St., Slidell. Class dates are July 20 and Aug. 17. Slidell High Quarterback Club Golf Extravaganza
Slidell High School Tigers Quarterback Club will hold a $1 million Shoot Out Golf Extravaganza July 26 at Pinewood Country Club, 405 Country Club Blvd., Slidell. The 18-hole, four-man scramble will begin with registration at 1:30 p.m.
The cost, $85 per player, will include greens fees, golf cart, dinner, beer and soft drinks. A foursome may register for $300, if signed up by July 1. Mulligans are $10 for two (limit two per player). Door prizes and contests from closest-to-the-hole and longest drive will be featured. Additional dinner tickets are available for $10 each, but must be purchased in advance of the tournament.
