Omar Sy Joins X-Men: Days of Future Past

Omar Sy Thumbs Up

From returning stars of X-Men: First Class to familiar faces of the original X-Men trilogy reprising key roles, Bryan Singer has successfully generated enough interest and excitement for?X-Men: Days of Future Past to position it as a contender for the biggest movie of summer 2014, and it hasn?t even started shooting yet.

But it?s not only the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy joined by Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart, etc., rounding out the all-star line-up of the X-Men: First Class (and?X-Men: The Last Stand). Director and Producer Bryan Singer happily announced that Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) would joining the franchise two weeks ago, and on Saturday evening, we?ve learned of another newcomer.

Singer took to Twitter ? seemingly the sole marketing machine behind?X-Men: Days of Future Past casting news ? to announce that France-born Omar Sy is officially the latest talent to join the next?X-Men team-up film.

Omar Sy earned international attention for his starring role in The Intouchables, a feature that earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Days of Future Past represents Sy?s first American film and for fans, it begs the question of who he could be playing. Like Dinklage?s role, there was no official word on what character he will be playing from the X-Men universe.

Although with X-Men and a story about time travel, there a few key characters that come to mind, including of course, Bishop. Bishop, a time-travelling mutant from a future where mutants are held captive in concentration camps, doesn?t have a French accent, but Singer and Fox have proven that?s not a factor in casting characters. Just look at the non-Australian Pyro, the non-Cajun Gambit, the non-Russian Colossus and the non-Irish Banshee.

Of course, Omar Sy could very well be playing a human character, perhaps involved with the Sentinel program. We can?t even say for sure at this point?when his character will show up, whether it be the early ?70s with the?First Class team or the near future with the original trilogy stars.

Bryan Singer will direct?X-Men: Days of Future Past?with returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry and possibly,?Alan Cumming. No word yet on Famke Janssen and James Marsden..

The Wolverine?releases July 26, 2013 and?X-Men: Days of Future Past?shoots from April to October for a?July 18, 2014 release date.
