New York?s newest winery ? that?s a phrase that seems to be cropping up with increasing frequency ? is open for business.
Toro Run Winery, located on the west side of Cayuga Lake about midway between Geneva and Watkins Glen, is a 64-acre site with 11 acres of vineyards and a brand-new winery and tasting room overlooking the lake.
The facility, owned by James Coppola and Chris Weaver, can produce up to 10,000 cases of wine as well as offering catering services and site rentals for weddings, reunions and other special events. They also offer custom crush wine making.
In a clever effort to market the new operation, Toro Run will host a farmer?s market and chicken barbecue every Friday, beginning July 5, from 3 to 7 p.m. Wine and beer will be sold by the glass and, of course, Toro Run?s wines will be available.
Tasting room hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and to 6 p.m. Friday-Sunday. In addition to wines, it offers a tapas menu that includes such items as conch chowder and a combo platter of cheese, jam?n, mushrooms and chorizo, and all varietals of wine at $5.95 a glass.
Toro Run Winery is located at 3050 Swick Road, Romulus.
