Wolf Pack rifle team finishes 8th at NCAA's

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Darron Pinkney from University of Nevada Athletics Media Services) - The University of Nevada rifle team finished in eighth place at the 2012 NCAA Rifle Championships that took place Friday and Saturday at Ohio State.

TCU used a dominating effort in air rifle to erase a five-point deficit to claim its second national championship in the last three seasons. The Horned Frogs edged out Kentucky who had the lead after day one 4,676-4,661. Rounding out the field of eight in third was Alaska, followed by Army, UTEP, West Virginia, Jacksonville State and Nevada.

Nevada had a nice showing in the small bore event, finishing with 2,306 points behind strong outings from Olivia Pennell and Dempster Christenson. The team had 2,326 points in air rifle behind solid marks by Clif Little and Christenson who each scored 584.

Several members of the team were honored as Chelsie Hata and Dempster Christenson were named to the National Rifle Association All-American air rifle team. Christenson was also named to the All-American small bore team.

?The team had a very good year and I am proud of their accomplishments this season,? head coach Fred Harvey said. ?I hope we can build on our success going into next season.?
