CLEVELAND, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --?In order to reflect its evolution and encourage future growth, Berea Children's Home and Family Services announces the rebranding of the organization as Guidestone?, solutions for children, families and communities.
To view the multimedia assets associated with this release, please click: http://www.multivu.com/mnr/55252-guidestone-for-children-families-and-communities-berea-rebranding
The rebranding to Guidestone showcases the organization's progression over time?both in the way clients are served, as well as the expansion of programs and services offered. Over the course of its almost 150-year legacy, the scope and types of treatment have broadened. When Berea Children's Home and Family Services adopted its current name in 1980, the organization's brand identity was truly reflective of the services it provided ? residential services. But over the past 30 years, it has progressed into a much larger, more diverse organization that serves a larger population. Today, the majority of business is in community-based services with geographic reach extending well beyond Cuyahoga County across Northeast Ohio and down to Columbus, Ohio.
As a non-profit organization that is solutions-focused, provides direction and inspiration to children, families and communities, and to help them become stronger, the name Guidestone was agreed upon and selected by both organizational leadership and its board of directors.
"We chose Guidestone because we believe that it best represents who we are as an organization, what we do and our mission," said Rich Frank, Guidestone CEO. "The word "guide" implies leadership and means something or someone that leads others in the right direction or advises and counsels. Stone represents those things that are solid, long lasting and foundational. Therefore, Guidestone means providing positive direction and hope based on a strong foundation."
Guidestone's vision and mission remains identical to Berea Children's Home and Family Services. Therefore, Guidestone ensures its employees, clients, and all stakeholders, that the rebranding will not have an impact on its programs or services. The organization remains committed to creating strong communities where future generations are educated, self-reliant, and fulfilled, and focuses its mission to help children and families reach their potential and become contributing members of a strong community.
"The new Guidestone brand identity helps distinguish our residential treatment programs from our non-residential programs and services, overcomes the perception that we're only located in Berea, creates greater clarity about what programs and services we provide and streamlines the process of entering new geographic locations," said David Zentkovich,? Guidestone chairman, board of directors.
All organization departments and support services will fall under the Guidestone name. Other programming and services, including all home and community based programs, foster care, parenting and family skills, workforce development and Central Ohio programming will also be branded as Guidestone services.?The residential treatment campus, a location of Guidestone, will be known as Berea Children's Home. In addition, affiliate organizations such as Seeds of Literacy, Family Life Child Care Centers, Invision Counseling Solutions and?the upcoming new charter school, Stepstone, will retain their current names but also be branded as Guidestone organizations.
Frank added, "This change has the potential to grow our organization. Ultimately, it will help us serve more clients and communities better and establish greater overall value for our organization."

NEW YORK (AP) ? Apple appears to be making less of a profit from each new iPad than it did when it launched the previous model a year ago, according to a research firm's analysis.
IHS iSuppli took apart a new iPad on Friday, the day the device went on sale in the U.S. and nine other countries, and found that the components are more expensive than those of the iPad 2.
The third iPad comes in several versions starting at $499, the same price as the iPad 2 at launch.
Apple has priced all three generations of the tablet aggressively, making it hard for competitors to match its features at the same price. It makes less from each iPad than from each iPhone.
As a whole, Apple is wildly profitable, earning $33 billion in net income on $81 billion in revenue in the last calendar year.
ISuppli said a new iPad with 32 gigabytes of RAM and a cellular modem, which costs $729 in stores, costs $364.35 to manufacture. That's 9 percent more than the $335 it cost to make the corresponding iPad 2 a year ago, when it came out.
The corresponding version of the first iPad cost about $276 to make in 2010, according to iSuppli's estimate.
The higher-resolution display and the larger battery needed to support it are the main reasons the new iPad is more expensive than the iPad 2. It has four times as many pixels as the iPad 2's screen. ISuppli estimates the display costs Apple $87, plus $40 for the touch-sensitive layer.
The new iPad battery has 70 percent more capacity, but the new display consumes all that additional power, so the battery life is the same as for the old model.
Also contributing to the cost increase is the new cellular modem in some models. It can use faster "4G LTE" networks in the U.S. and Canada.
Samsung Electronics Co. remains the largest single supplier of iPad components. It made the display in the unit iSuppli examined and it supplies all iPad processors. ISuppli suspects Samsung also made the battery and supplies flash storage memory for some versions of the new iPad.
In fact, half of the new iPad's "bill of materials" may be for Samsung components, iSuppli said.
Apple and Samsung don't comment on their business relationships.
Samsung also makes its own tablets and they have succeeded better than most competitors.
ISuppli's cost estimate does not include packaging or overhead costs like design, marketing and software.
Though the Internet as we know it is less than 20 years old, direct sales have been an integral part from the start. Brick and mortar stores began putting up their first websites in the early 1990?s, followed by web-only retailers like Amazon.
In this classic e-commerce model, the business maintains a physical inventory of goods either onsite or via a dropshipper company. In the U.S., the retailer is responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax in states where it is required. (There is no national sales tax in America.)
Many of these e-retailers have armies of independent sales reps known as affiliates. Let?s look at the affiliate model next.
In affiliate marketing, a person or company contracts with a retailer to sell the retailer?s products for them, resulting in a commission to the affiliate. In exchange for the affiliate?s marketing efforts, the retailer provides the affiliate with a special coded link that, when clicked, sets a cookie on a user?s computer.
One typical affiliate marketing model is the paid advertisement on a search engine network. Banner ad exchanges are also used. Many affiliates create their own websites that act as virtual storefronts, where the buyer clicks the product he wants and is taken to the retailer?s order page.
The success of affiliate marketing depends solely on whether or not the purchaser has cookies enabled; if a buyer has flushed them from her computer, the transaction cannot be linked back to the affiliate and the affiliate will lose the commission.
Most affiliates are part of an affiliate network, who handles collection of taxpayer information such as name and SSN and serves as a broker between retailer and affiliate. Some affiliate-type relationships between a retailer and a marketer can better be described as joint ventures, with specific duties and responsibilities assigned to each.
Commission or joint venture compensation received by the affiliate throughout the year, including bonuses, prizes, gifts, free products, and such, is considered self-employment income and is subject to self-employment tax. The self-employment tax can be reduced by taking business expense deductions, but only if the affiliate qualifies as a business and is able to use the Schedule C business tax form.
AL-ARISH, Egypt (AP) ? Armed tribesmen freed two Brazilian women and an Egyptian police officer who was with them late Sunday, hours after abducting them in the Sinai desert, a security official said.
The head of security in Egypt's south Sinai, Mahmoud Hefnawi, said the two tourists and the police officer were released unharmed,
Earlier Sunday, six armed men with covered faces approached the tour bus carrying the Brazilian women and took the two and the police officer off the bus. The remaining passengers were allowed to go.
The tourists were near the sixth century St. Catherine's Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai, one of Egypt's most popular tourist sites.
A spokesman for the Brazilian Foreign Ministry said the bus was carrying about 45 Brazilian tourists when it was stopped by the group of armed Bedouins. The official was not allowed to give his name in line with government policy.
Hefnawi said the kidnappers agreed to release the three after tribal elders spoke to them. He said the three were held in a mountainous area 70 kilometers (40 miles) from Mt. Sinai and were served tea and dried fruit while in captivity.
Brazil's Foreign Ministry said negotiations to free the women were handled by the Egyptian Interior Ministry, closely followed by the Brazilian Embassy in Cairo.
Tribesmen in the area have abducted tourists in recent weeks to pressure Egyptian authorities to release their own detained relatives.
An Egyptian official said the abductors were identified as Bedouins from the area who have a relative detained on possession of drugs and illegal weapons. He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with police rules.
Sunday's abduction was the latest in a series of kidnappings in Sinai, which has seen a surge in lawlessness over the last year.
Last month, three South Korean women and two American women were kidnapped near the monastery in separate incidents. They were released unharmed.
Hefnawi said the men who kidnapped the Brazilian tourists were apparently the same ones who abducted the Americans.

Last week, Greece officially defaulted on its debt. (Unofficially, it defaulted long ago.) This formal default on about $100 billion triggered payment of $3 billion in credit-default swaps. These are the non-insurance insurance products that pay off in the event of a default.Let?s take a closer look at the tortured history of the swaps and see why they should be regulated as commercial insurance policies.
Our story thus far: CDS obtained their favored status as unregulated insurance policies courtesy of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. It was sponsored by then-Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Tex.) ? and benefited Enron, where his wife, Wendy, was a director on the board. The energy company had discovered the fast profit of trading energy derivatives, which was much easier to achieve without those pesky regulations. Late in the year, the CFMA was rushed through Congress. Passed unanimously in the Senate and overwhelmingly in the House, it was mostly unread by Congress or its staffers. On the advice of then-Treasury secretary Lawrence H. Summers, the bill was signed into law by Bill Clinton.
No one associated with this awful legislation has yet to be rebuked for it. Anyone who actually read this debacle and recommended it should be banned for life from having anything to do with public policy or economics.
Why? The act was a radical deregulation of derivatives. It was an example of the now widely discredited belief that banks and markets could self-regulate without problems. Management would never do anything that put the franchise at risk, and if it did, it would be suitably punished by the shareholders.
It didn?t quite work out that way. Across Wall Street, nearly all senior management involved escaped with their bonuses and stock options intact. Lehman chief executive Dick Fuld lost hundreds of millions of dollars and now must scrape by on the mere $500 million or so he squirreled away.
The act did more than change the way derivatives were regulated. It annihilated all relevant regulations. First, it modified the Commodity Exchange Act of 1936 (CEA) by exempting derivative transactions from all regulations as either ?futures? (under the CEA) or ?securities? (under federal securities laws). Further, the CFMA specifically exempted credit-defaults swaps and other derivatives from regulation by any state insurance board or regulator.
Hence, the law created a unique class of financial instruments that was neither fish nor fowl: It trades like a financial product but is not a security; it is designed to hedge future prices but is not a futures contract; it pays off in the event of a specific loss-causing event but is not an insurance policy.
Given these enormous exemptions from the usual rules that govern financial products, you can guess what happened with the swaps. A very specific set of economic behaviors emerged: Companies that wrote insurance typically set aside reserves for expected risk of loss and payout. When it came to swaps, the companies that underwrote them had no such obligation.
This had enormous repercussions. The biggest underwriter of default swaps was AIG, the world?s largest insurer. Without that reserve-requirement limitation, it was free to underwrite as many swaps as it could print. And that was just what it did: AIG?s Financial Products unit underwrote more than $3 trillion worth of derivatives, with precisely zero dollars reserved for paying any potential claim.
Though this may sound utterly absurd today, circa 2005 it was considered brilliant financial engineering. Consider this quote from Tom Savage, the president of AIG FP: ?The models suggested that the risk was so remote that the fees were almost free money. Just put it on your books and enjoy.?
Ahhh, free money ? how could that dream ever go wrong?
As it turns out, quite easily. Underwriting swaps was enormously lucrative ? so long as you don?t count that unpleasant crashing and burning into insolvency at the end.
Oh, and that massive $185 billion AIG government bailout. Aside from those tiny hiccups, there was some good money to be made.
It was more than just AIG. While the radical deregulation wrought by the CFMA led to AIG?s self-directed collapse, it also helped steer two of the largest securitizers of mortgages ? Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers ? into insolvency. Perhaps they were lulled into complacency, believing (wrongly) that they were hedged against losses. The CFMA led to their demise, and it was indirectly responsible for the collapse of Citigroup, Bank of America and Fannie and Freddie. It also was a significant factor in the near-death experiences of Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and quite a few others.
Despite the CFMA?s horrific fatality toll, it has never been overturned. Parts of it were modified by Dodd-Frank regulations, but not the insurance exemptions. Today, these swaps are cleared through exchanges or clearinghouses ? but they are still exempt from all insurance regulatory oversight. Which is bizarre, because they are little more than thinly disguised insurance products, with the CFMA kicker that there is no reserve requirement.
Which brings us more or less up to date ? and onto more topical issues, such as Greece. Two weeks ago, the International Swaps and Derivatives Association said that ?based on current evidence the Greek bailout would not prompt payments on the credit default swaps.?
That is an odd statement about a tradable asset ? based on evidence? Typically, an option or futures contract expires, and it either is in or out of the money. Any tradable asset ? stocks, bonds, futures, options, funds, etc. ? settles on its own. There is a market price the asset closes at, a total volume of sales, and a final print for the day, month, quarter and year. No interpretation is required. Why on earth would anyone need a committee ruling for a trade?
On Friday, the ISDA committee ruled that Greece formally defaulted. Thank goodness that was cleared up. Had they failed to do so, it would have fatally damaged the swaps market and made sovereign debt financing much more expensive.
What makes this issue so fascinating is not whether Greece has or has not technically defaulted. Rather, it is that there is a committee of conflicted interested parties rendering a verdict on that issue.
Funny, no sort of group declaration is required when a futures contract or an option must settle. No committee decision is required. Which (again) is why credit-default swaps look, sound and act a lot more like insurance than they do other tradable assets.
Why does it matter if swaps are not insurance? In a word, reserves. That is the key difference between insurance and swaps. State insurance regulators actually require reserves from insurers ? a lot of reserves ? to ensure payments can be made in the event any payable event occurs. The swaps industry does not require reserves. Not even one penny against billions in potential losses.
I think you can see why this matters so much. Swaps are a lot less profitable as an insurance product than they are as a trading vehicle. That is the primary issue that we all should be concerned about. It is exactly how AIG blew itself up. There is nothing that prevents the marketplace from doing it again. We could very well see a repeat unless this gets resolved. Indeed, the odds heavily favor such an event occurring, unless we collectively do something to stop it.
Credit-default swaps are insurance products. It is well past time we regulated them as such.

Were you aware that water pressure above 80 psi can actually cause a loud hammering sound to occur in your plumbing system? This can be easily resolved by installing a valve that can adjust the incoming water pressure. For more great expert tips, check out the rest of this article.
You do not always need a plumber to repair a leaky faucet
Sometimes you have to make the choice between replacing or repairing. If you have an old appliance, that uses a lot of water or electricity, it may be best to replace. Sure, it will cost more initially, but it will save you money in the long run. The other thing is, you can?t be sure how well a repair will work out, whereas with a new appliance you?ll at least get a guarantee.
Do a routine check around your house each month on each and every faucet to make sure there are no signs of leaks or drips. Over time, leaks can add a lot of money to your water bill and will worsen if you do not take care of the problem.
In order to ensure that your toilet works smoothly, make sure the chain connected to the handle is of the proper length. If the chain is too short, you will likely have a leak between the tank and the basin, and if the chain is too long, you run the risk of it catching in the flapper.
If you do attempt to do plumbing repairs yourself, do not forget to wear proper safety gear. Many pipes and plumbing areas are under great pressure and if there is a pipe that bursts, it can cause serious injury. Wear the proper eye, hand, and ear protection when doing any plumbing repairs.
Learn to fix a leaky faucet
In conclusion, you want to be sure that you know what all of the noises you hear coming from your basement are. Some noises could be normal, some could mean that are more serious problems. Hopefully this article will help you determine what sorts of issues require your immediate response.

People may be able to remember things easily if they engage in mental tasks that would keep the brain working properly.Remembering from one?s memory is seldom used especially with the computers and phones that can readily give any information that an individual needs.Using the information from a gadget would not help the memory to retain it.Electronic gadgets do not last forever and it may be a problem later.
Individuals still have the chance to work on the improvement of their capacity to remember things by using some methods.Individuals may try doing these easy steps anytime of the day or night on a regular basis. Some take a little more practice than others, but all of them can be useful when you get use to doing them.
Mental exercises that includes association can be very helpful to people.People can make use of this method for them to be able to absorb details like names or events. The memory can retain better especially if people are able to take note of other details that may come from the different senses.
Recalling events like weddings can be easier if people use association for them to store the information in their memory better. Those who hear some special songs may remember past events or occasions like their first dance with their partner in life.
Remembering somebody or some places may be triggered by the scent of something familiar.People who are into the perfume industry have made it big especially with the most memorable fragrances that they have created.
People can also make use of recitations so that they may be able to remember memorized ideas.Research show that people who recite their memorized work for four times at least will be able to retain it in their memory.Repetition can be performed either by writing or by saying.
People may choose to write what they have learned and then to say everything out loud for several times for them to remember it later. This will help people to deal effectively with mathematical equations and correct spelling.
You will discover many ways to improve your memory by enrolling into a memory enhancement program. If you are looking for more information about memory improvement program you can find it here. If you click their page you will get more information about them.

Epigenetic signatures direct the repair potential of reprogrammed cellsPublic release date: 14-Mar-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]

BOSTON (March 14, 2012) A research team has identified epigenetic signatures, markers on DNA that control transient changes in gene expression, within reprogrammed skin cells. These signatures can predict the expression of a wound-healing protein in reprogrammed skin cells or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), cells that take on embryonic stem cell properties. Understanding how the expression of the protein is controlled brings us one step closer to developing personalized tissue regeneration strategies using stem cells from a patient, instead of using human embryonic stem cells. The study was published in the Journal of Cell Science.
When skin cells are reprogrammed, many of their cellular properties are recalibrated as they aquire stem cell properties and then are induced to become skin cells again. In order for these "induced" stem cells to be viable in treatment for humans (tissue regeneration, personalized wound healing therapies, etc.), researchers need to understand how they retain or even improve their characteristics after they are reprogrammed.
Since the initial discovery of reprogramming, scientists have struggled with the unpredictability of the cells due to the many changes that occur during the reprogramming process. Classifying specific epigenetic signatures, as this study did, allows researchers to anticipate ways to produce cell types with optimal properties for tissue repair while minimizing unintended cellular abnormalities.
The researchers used reprogrammed cells to generate three-dimensional connective tissue that mimics an in vivo wound repair environment. To verify the role of the protein (PDGFRbeta) in tissue regeneration and maintenance, the team blocked its cellular expression, which impaired the cells' ability to build tissue.
"We determined that successful tissue generation is associated with the expression of PDGFRbeta. Theoretically, by identifying the epigenetic signatures that indicate its expression, we can determine the reprogrammed cells' potential for maintaining normal cellular characteristics throughout development," said first author Kyle Hewitt, PhD, a graduate of the cell, molecular & developmental biology program at the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences, and postdoctoral associate in the Garlick laboratory at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM).
"The ability to generate patient-specific cells from the reprogrammed skin cells may allow for improved, individualized, cell-based therapies for wound healing. Potentially, these reprogrammed cells could be used as a tool for drug development, modeling of disease, and transplantation medicine without the ethical issues associated with embryonic stem cells," said senior author Jonathan Garlick, DDS, PhD, a professor in the department of oral and maxillofacial pathology and director of the division of tissue engineering and cancer biology at TUSDM.
Jonathan Garlick is also a member of the cell, molecular & developmental biology program faculty at the Sackler School and the director of the Center for Integrated Tissue Engineering (CITE) at TUSDM.

You haven't lived until you've been threatened by the Nation of Islam...and sometimes, you don't live after the Nation of Islam threaten's your life."
Those were the opening remarks of a segment on Tuesday evening's episode of the Glenn Beck Program in which Glenn revealed how he was threatened by none other than rabid Antisemite Louis Farrakhan -- or at least by his henchmen at The Nation.
The NOI official newspaper wrote over the weekend that?Glenn Beck ?is a minion of the Synagogue of Satan?and as such represents the thinking of those used as their low-level pawns.?
The author continued: ?The Holy Qur?an teaches Muslims to never be the aggressor in word or deed, but if attacked, we fight with those who fight with us.?
Sounds a tad threatening, no?
Glenn responded on his program by taking NOI and Farrakhan to task, exploring the movement and their vitriolic leader's history of violence. He also delved into the reasons why he said Farrakhan and NOI might be a threat to President Obama.
Many will recall the fate that befell Malcolm X once he broke with The Nation.
Watch below as Glenn discusses one of the country's most?notorious?propagators?of hate, bigotry and violence:
Build belief. Become a Leader and treat your Network Marketing/Direct Selling business like a ?real? business.
The best way to real success is belief in ourselves and what we?re doing.? Plug into training with the company, sponsor and success team.??? All training from the company and success team should be free and accessible.
Read success books and listen to CD?s.? Buy them used on Amazon, or go to the library, read or listen to them online.? Go to success events.? They are for your benefit to help you grow into a leader.? Investing in our business (ROI) pays us back tenfold. Constantly be learning and growing.? Become a leader and add value to people?s lives and help them build their business.
Treat your Network Marketing business like a ?real? business. We hear it all the time.? ?I don?t want to tell anyone I know about my Network Marketing business until I see results with the products or until I?m making money.? Do you think that people who invest in and open up a restaurant just sit there and wait to have results before they invite anyone into their business establishment??? If they did this, they?d never open for business.
Put that open for business sign out for your Network Marketing business and shout it out to let everyone what you do?.
Stop blaming others for failure.? We are the captain of our own ship.? Failure is just the rehearsal, success is the main event.?? There will always be obstacles and challenges to overcome with any worthwhile endeavor.? Get over it and keep on taking action that will lead to your success and help you lead others.? When we fail no one is to blame but us.
Besides if everything that goes wrong is always another person?s fault they are the ones growing through the adversity and reaping the rewards of leadership right??? When we?re not failing we?re not growing forward for success.

If you?re thinking about an excellent career in supporting networks then the MCSA course will suit you perfectly. Whether you?re about to get into IT or already have experience but need a professional certificate, there?s a range of courses to fulfil your needs. To achieve certification at the MCSA level there are four MCP?s (Microsoft Certified Professional exams) needed to be passed. If you?re new to IT, it?s likely you?ll have to pick up some skills prior to tackling the first of the four MCP?s. Identify a training company that has a team of advisors who can help you sort out the best way forward for you and can match a course start point to your current skill set.
Accredited exam preparation and simulation materials are essential ? and should definitely be sought from your training provider. Because a lot of IT examining boards are from the USA, you need to become familiar with their phraseology. It isn?t good enough just going through the right questions ? they have to be in the same format as the actual exams. Why don?t you check whether you?re learning enough by doing quizzes and mock ups of exams before you take the real thing.
The sometimes daunting task of finding your first role in IT can be made easier by training colleges, through a Job Placement Assistance service. Don?t get caught up in this feature ? it?s quite easy for training companies to overstate it?s need. In reality, the massive skills shortage in this country is what will enable you to get a job.
CV and Interview advice and support is sometimes offered (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Make sure you update that dusty old CV straight away ? not after you?ve qualified! You may not have got to the stage where you?ve got to the exam time when you will be offered your first junior support job; yet this won?t be the case unless you?ve posted your CV on job sites. If you don?t want to travel too far to work, then you may well find that a specialist locally based employment agency could serve you better than a national service, for they are much more inclined to know the local job scene.
A constant frustration of some training providers is how hard men and women are prepared to study to become certified, but how ill-prepared they are to market themselves for the job they?re qualified for. Get out there and hustle ? you might find it?s fun. Consider www.mcsa-course.co.uk for current facts.
Sometimes, individuals don?t catch on to what information technology is all about. It is ground-breaking, exciting, and puts you at the fore-front of developments in technology that will change our world over the next few decades. Technology, computers and connections via the internet will radically shape our lives over the coming years; profoundly so.
And keep in mind that income in the IT market throughout this country is significantly better than the national average salary, which means you will more than likely receive a lot more with professional IT knowledge, than you would in most typical jobs. Due to the technological sector emerging at an unprecedented rate, it?s predictable that the need for qualified professionals will flourish for the significant future.
