Former California State Student Sentenced to 1 Year in Prison for Rigging Elections

In March, we learned that former California State University San Marcos student, Matthew Weaver, admitted to stealing the IDs and passwords of over 700 students to influence last year?s campus elections.

Weaver used a keylogger to steal the information, which he used to cast votes for himself and his friends on behalf of the victims.

U-T Sand Diego reports that the former student has been sentenced to one year in prison. In addition, he might also be forced to pay back the university the amount of money that was spent to repeat the elections.

The judge that handed out the sentence noted that while the election rigging was a serious offense, it was ?kind of juvenile.? However, he was mostly bothered with the way Weaver tried to cover up his crime.

After he was caught red-handed while casting votes for himself using the stolen information, the former student and a friend came up with a plan to make it appear as if he was framed.

They created fake Facebook pages with the names of real students and started fictitious conversations about how they allegedly conspired to frame him. Unfortunately for him, no one bought the story.

Hockey India appoints Dave Staniforth as goalkeeping coach

Former South Africa player Dave Staniforth has been appointed as goalkeeping coach and strategic analyst of the Indian senior and junior men's teams, Hockey India announced on Thursday.

The 37-year-old Staniforth, who represented his country in 65 internationals, has worked as goalkeeping coach with the South African national side for three years.

Staniforth was also goalkeeping coach and video analyst of Ranchi Rhinos, the inaugural champions of the Hockey India League (HIL).

Hockey India Secretary General Narinder Batra said Staniforth's appointment will benefit all the goalkeepers in the core probables immensely.

"Hockey as a sport is about precise strategy and execution, so I believe that Dave's appointment will be significant ahead of the major events including FIH Hockey Junior Men World Cup 2013 and FIH Hockey Senior Men World Cup 2014," Batra said in a release.

Staniforth exuded confidence of preparing Indian goal keepers well for the tough assignments ahead.

"I am very happy with my new role with the Indian men teams and really look forward to preparing the goalkeepers for the busy hockey schedule ahead. Having spent a lot of time following the Indian team during the last two years, I have a good understanding of the goalkeepers' strengths and weaknesses," he said.

"I think that having a quality goalkeeper backing up an attacking hockey style is crucial to any teams success and I will be doing my best to make sure that the Indian men teams have this luxury," added Staniforth.

Staniforth represented South Africa in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, 10th FIH Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur in 2002 and 8th All Africa Games in Nigeria 2003.

U.S. U-17 Men?s National Team wins the International Tournament in Japan

NIIGATA, Japan ? The U.S. Under-17 Men?s National Team defeated the Niigata All-Stars 2-0 to win the International Tournament in Niigata, Japan.

Andrija Novakovich scored in his third straight match to put the U.S. ahead 1-0 in the 60th minute. Rubio Rubin added a second in the 80th minute and the U.S. took home the tournament title with three straight victories.

The U.S. U-17 MNT kicked off the tournament with a 2-1 win against Japan and followed up with a 4-2 win against Croatia.
